Formatting Your Educational Assistant Resume (or CV)
When applying online via the JobsWA Jobs Board, your resume (or CV) and covering letter should be saved in MS Word, MS Excel, Adobe PDF, JPEG or GIF format.
You should prepare your CV and covering letter in font size 10 (at a minimum) with a margin of at least 1cm (including top, bottom and sides). Schools often indicate a preference for Arial Narrow font.

Differences Between Educational Assistant Roles for Mainstream and Special Needs
While the overall format of your resume will remain the same, Education Assistant – Mainstream and Education Assistant – Special Needs applications require a slight change in what sort of information you include. You should emphasise your experience working with students with diagnosed disabilities and extra requirements if you are applying for a Special Needs position.
Ensure a Comprehensive Application
Most job ads for Education Assistants in WA will specify that as well as your CV, you will also need to supply a statement addressing the ‘Work Related Requirements’ (selection criteria), in context of the role and business needs of the school.
What to Include in Your Educational Assistant Resume
Usually, your CV should include the following sections:
Contact Details
- Full legal name
- Email address
- Postal address
- Phone number
- LinkedIn profile URL if you have one
Professional Summary
Include a few sentences outlining your career goals and professional strengths. Remember to keep it relevant to the role you are applying for.
Professional Employment History
Use reverse chronological order i.e., your most recent experience goes first. Provide full details of your previous job titles, organisations, dates you worked there (e.g., Jan 2020 – July 2022), your duties and any key achievements.
Education
Include full titles of relevant qualifications (e.g., Certificate IV in School Based Education Support), the educational facility you obtained the qualification from and the year you obtained it. Include details of any placements you completed as part of this education.
Professional Associations
Include the type and date you joined.
Volunteer Work
Include details of relevant volunteer work, inclusive of dates you worked and main duties. Note: If your volunteer work is more relevant to the role you are applying for than your paid employment history, you may consider including this section above Employment History.
Referees
Include at least two referees, ideally with knowledge of your abilities in the education setting.
