Teacher Aide Resume Writing – 5 Points To Remember

by | Oct 3, 2023 | Writing Advice

A teacher aide plays an important role in the education system. They provide support to teachers in the classroom, helping to create a positive and effective learning environment for students. If you are interested in pursuing a career as a teacher aide, it is important to have a strong resume, aligned with Australian resume writing standards, that highlights your skills and experience.

In this blog post, we will provide tips and advice on how to create a standout teacher’s aide resume.

This post is relevant to people applying for teacher’s aide jobs in both Victoria and Queensland.

If you are applying in other Australian states, the requirements may differ (check out how to write your WA Education Assistant application here). In Victoria, you will need to submit your resume, along with a brief cover letter and detailed responses to the selection criteria. Note your resume and cover letter need to be combined in one document (view our templates).

1. When creating a resume for teacher’s aide positions, highlight relevant skills, qualifications and experience.

This may include experience working (or volunteering) with children, knowledge of educational practices and principles, and strong communication and interpersonal skills. You should also highlight any relevant qualifications or certifications, such as a Certificate IV in School Based Education Support.

2. Keep it clear and concise.

Use bullet points to highlight your skills and experience, and make sure to include relevant keywords and phrases that will catch the attention of potential employers. You should also include a professional summary or objective statement at the top of your resume, which highlights your skills and experience and explains why you are a good fit for the role.

3. Include information on your education, qualifications and work experience.

Your teacher aide resume should be 2-4 pages and should include a comprehensive history of your education, qualifications and work experience. You should ensure your resume is targeted to the role you are applying for. This means including information that is relevant to that position only. Do not include reference to your family/ marital status, age/date of birth etc.

4. Use a professional teacher aide resume template.

Would you like access to a fully formatted teacher aide resume and cover letter template? This template has been designed for Victorian government teacher aide roles. It includes the resume and cover letter combined in one document, as required by these positions.

5. Include relevant sections.

Usually, your teacher aide resume should include the following sections, in this order:

Full legal name

Email address

Phone number

LinkedIn profile URL if you have one

Profile/ Career Objective

Include a few sentences outlining your career goals and professional strengths. Remember to keep it relevant to the role you are applying for.
